Ad-supported ringtone play Myxer is now bulking it catalog with more than one million independent ringtones, thanks to a recent deal involving The Orchard. The off-deck mobile content player indicated that it will soon start converting a total of 1.1 million tracks into premium ringtones through an automated process. "Myxer's goal is to make it incredibly easy for people to get the mobile content they want, when they want it, period," said company chief executive Myk Willis.
The Orchard catalog will dance in front of an Myxer audience of roughly 11 million, and reshape an asset catalog that current falls below 500,000. The infusion comes against the backdrop of an evolving and shrinking ringtone space, one that has been mostly dominated by hip-hop and r&b chart toppers.
The Orchard brings content from labels Definitive Jux, Dim Mak, BCD Music Group, Nuclear Blast, and Greensleeves, among many others. Myxer also encourages unsigned bands to upload their ringtones directly.
