Yet another iTunes competitor? This time, the upstart appears to be gaming giant Activision Blizzard, maker of the Guitar Hero series. According to recent comments by company chief Bobby Kotick, the iTunes-like store would build upon the current, in-game storefront. "There have not been a lot of credible alternatives to iTunes, but Guitar Hero certainly has potential," Kotick said.
Activision Blizzard is the merged result of Activision and Vivendi Games, a deal sealed last week. According to Vivendi chief executive Jean-Bernard Levy, the presence of Vivendi-owned Universal Music Group would allow quicker licensing across a broader number of territories, thanks to the massive recording and publishing catalogs controlled.
