Got bad PR? An unusual protest video about United Airlines is now reaching iTunes, thanks to a quick distribution deal involving TuneCore. According to the latest count, 'United Breaks Guitars' has 3.2 million views on YouTube, and singer Dave Carroll wants to capitalize on the energy. The song will be available as a downloadable song and video on the iTunes Store. "Really looking forward to seeing the video up there too in the next couple days," Carroll said.
That starts a revenue stream from a-la-carte purchasing. But wait. Why are there no ads surrounding the Carroll video on YouTube? At 3.2 million views, this represents an opportunity for some revenue, even at YouTube CPMs. Sounds like a small version of the fiasco surrounding Susan Boyle, who garnered more than one hundred million video streams without proper channel monetization. Stay tuned as the story unfolds...
