Replacements frontman Paul Westerberg is now selling a 49-minute album for 49-cents, a novel approach. The songs of the album are melded together into one, long track, another convention-bucking move.
Westerberg tapped TuneCore on the distribution, though the track itself is only available on AmazonMP3 and TuneCore.com. "As always, we keep all our rights, and get all the money," said Westerberg's manager Darren Hill, referring to the TuneCore structure. "There is no better way for Paul, or anyone, to do this."
Others, including the iTunes Store, cannot accommodate the effort. Apple mostly imposes uniform pricing, and prefers to decouple albums into individual tracks.
