Rhapsody is now adding the entire U2 catalog to its service, a nice content grab for the joint venture. The collection can also be found on the iTunes Store, though Rhapsody owners RealNetworks and MTV Networks pointed to the first DRM-free offering of the entire catalog. "This is the first time the entire catalog is available in DRM-free MP3 format," blogged RealNetworks staffer Lacy Kemp.
But others also offer MP3s from U2, including Napster, itself a recent escapee from DRM-protected content. The Napster collection is substantial, and probably enough for most fans, though perhaps not as extensive as the selection on Rhapsody. Elsewhere, AmazonMP3 carries an incredibly limited offering, though U2 will mostly likely broaden its DRM-free licensing over time.
Rhapsody is offering each album for $9.99, and double-disc sets with bonus tracks retail for $19.98.
