Capitol Records, Brian Wilson, and... USA Today?

Outside of niche online marketing campaigns and social networking tie-ins, traditional media outlets can still deliver serious exposure and sales.  In that light, EMI-owned Capitol Records is now tapping publisher Gannett on an upcoming Brian Wilson release.  Gannett, owner of USA Today, will spread an exclusive Wilson album stream across a network of newspaper and television sites, including USAToday.com.

The album, That Lucky Old Sun, will be offered exclusively across the Gannett internet properties starting August 22nd, up until a September 2nd release date.  Users will not be able to download the album, though Gannett will offer links to Amazon for CD pre-orders.  The network covers fifty newspaper and television station destinations, a blanket across the United States.  The deal is the first of its kind for Gannett, and potentially the first of many.
