Breaking: OurStage, MTV Disclosing Major Partnership...

OurStage is now forging a major alliance with MTV Networks, according to details tipped Tuesday evening to Digital Music News.  The companies have actually been collaborating for some time, though a broader, more above-board announcement is expected at some point Wednesday.  Over the summer, MTV has been working with OurStage to pluck bands for a number of programs and events, including the ongoing mtvU Six Flags VMA Tour and the upcoming 2009 MTV Video Music Awards.

After that, the companies will collaborate on a number of projects that involve discovery, trend-spotting, and targeted promotion.  That plays solidly into the core competency of OurStage, a site that facilitates an organic discovery process by allowing fans to vote for their favorite acts.  That engine will play an integral role within a range of artist-driven MTV shows and initiatives, across a variety of network channels.

The canvass includes the mainline MTV channel, as well as MTV2, mtvU, and MTV Tr3s.  It will also spread across television, online, live, and mobile platforms.  Critical players in the tie-up are Ben Campbell, OurStage CEO, and Dermot McCormack, head of Digital Media for MTV Networks Music and Logo Group.  More details forthcoming.
