You really want to play in this country? Well, the Chinese Ministry of Culture has just published 100 songs that are now banned for distribution, with lots of Gaga and Perry throughout. Digital distributors in China must now remove the specified tracks or face penalties - while illegal channels are probably less burdened. The latest list also includes tracks by Simple Plan, Beyonce, Take That, Owl City (eh?) and the Backstreet Boys, among others.
And, that is on top of earlier ban lists (of which we don't have access... yet, anyone?)
The reasons for the latest playlist are vague, though they include improper registration and the threat of [translated] "disrupting the online music marketplace and engandering the security of Chinese culture."
Here's the list.

So, Beyonce's "Run the World (Girls)" is banned for sale in China. No punchline necessary.

I don't know about the Chinese artist, but all the American-language [sic] artists on that list are already banned in my household.
As is just about anything else that makes the pop charts in this aesthetic wasteland.
Cheers,

Music is just not Music any more. Bring back good Music if you can Compose some. China likes the Pentatonic Scale as does Asia. We can not get too Westernized in China, and use an eight note scale, let alone the word's or any revolutionary thought's. Robotic's, that's what China likes, Robot People with no free thought process, easy for Government control. [http://twitter.com/vinciazee ]

To be fair, they're right on the ball with banning The Backstreet Boys!

BBTenor Tuesday, August 30, 2011
Are you sure this isn't a list put out by the GOP Conservative Evangelists??? Hmmm.

Yes No-No Go-Go Ga-Ga Tuesday, August 30, 2011
Well... as an American I can't condone censorship but at least the Chinese people aren't going to be subjected to GaGa's trash.... she's a media whore... and that's the only purpose to her pornographic visuals and junk music that I can see... tasteless, nearly talentless and designed strictly to get attention for dollars. The gays and others pay for porn and outrageous BS on stage... I can't give her a dime.... and the Chinese won't be suckered into doing so either....

@TheVandals Tuesday, August 30, 2011

Looks like less of a political controversy and more of an issue of good taste to me.
