RootMusic has raised $16 million in second round financing, led by GGV Capital. That follows a $2.3 million round earlier this year for the band-focused Facebook app, which now counts more than 250,000 bands.  

Sonos now reaches into more than one million rooms, according to the company.  That is part of a steady march that started in 2005 for the networked stereo system manufacturer. 

On the API front, Spotify is now expanding its embedded player API 'libspotify' for iOS developers.  That means 'Spotify Inside' for a range of potential iPhone and iPad apps.

ReverbNation has joined forces with snack maker Popchips and SPIN to sponsor - wait for it - 'pop up' concerts in New York, LA, San Francisco, Chicago, and Seattle.  The most promising act will be featured at SXSW on the SPIN stage.

Pitchfork was busy launching a facelift over the weekend, not that the old one looked so bad.

VEVO has just tapped former Myspace guy Michael Cerda as Senior Vice President of Product Development.
