Artist-focused iPhone apps are becoming increasingly commonplace, especially for those with the resources, labels, or partnerships to get it done. Now, the early market is starting to mature, and entrants are jumping in to directly serve the market for artists, labels, festivals, and other music-related categories. That includes BlueHaze (bluehaze.com), as well as MobBase, a service officially launching this week.
MobBase is planning to deliver a service that gives artists the ability to build apps that involve quick-released music, recording outtakes, photos, videos, touring information, tweets, merchandise and other selling opportunities. In other words, 'the works' that artists are typically stuffing into their apps.
In most cases, the audience for an artist app is a tightly-focused fanbase, a niche that means higher conversion rates and connectivity. MobBase is promising to offer its apps for modest price points to attract smaller groups, though plenty of established artists - including Everclear and Pepper - are already on board. The company is promising a good level of customization, and a major digital distribution partner is also in the wings.
