The traditional music magazine is getting crustier and crustier by the moment, though Spin Magazine is experimenting with some digital concepts. Just recently, Spin joined forces with Best Buy and Napster to deliver something beyond the typical print publication. The premiere "Find 'Em First" release features a 20-track CD, a three-month subscription to Napster, and 15 free MP3s from Napster, all for $9.99. The package also includes a 56-page mini-mag, complete with exclusive interviews and reviews.
The price point is certainly relaxed, at least by industry standards. A total of 35 MP3s - not including endless subscription plays and plenty of extras - are suddenly available for under $10. But that may not smell like a deal to consumers, especially given the widespread availability of gratis music blogs and MP3s.
But Spin is also offering some giveaways to spice things up. The pool of prizes includes a meet-and-greet with Passion Pit, and a guitar signed by Juliette Lewis. More at bestbuy.com/spin.
