Traders mellowed a bit on the Orchard during Wednesday trading, despite a potentially lucrative buyout differential. Instead of booming once again, Orchard (Nasdaq: ORCD) shares edged downward 3.65 percent to $1.59, below a proposed buyout price of $1.84. Trading volume also plunged, tanking to 3,675, a fraction of average daily trading activity over the past three months. By comparison, Monday volume surged to 127,700, moving to 38,700 on Tuesday. The Orchard did not offer comment on Wednesday trading moves.
Meanwhile, the bigger picture on this stock is disappointing to anyone holding a longer-term card. As an example, the pre-merged Orchard was dancing above $10 in early 2006, though things have been sliding since. That reflects a continued devaluation on the street, and ORCD has languished despite big Wall Street gains this year. But for short-term traders looking for a pop, the buyout bid could generate some winnings - stay tuned.
