Volvo Delivering Standard HD Integration In 2009....

The Big Three are battling for their lives, and most other automakers are suffering substantial drops.  That is bad news for dashboard-dependent business models, including satellite and HD radio, though automakers are still moving forward with integration plans.

That includes Volvo Cars of North America, which announced Wednesday that it would be the first carmaker to offer HD, digital radio reception as a standard feature.  The action starts with 2009 models, excluding the S60.  "Adding HD radio capability to our models truly makes our audio systems state of the art, giving Volvo drivers an even more enjoyable driving experience," said Doug Speck, president and CEO of Volvo Cars of North America.  "Undoubtedly, other manufacturers will follow."

Actually, others are already making HD-related moves, though perhaps not as emphatically as Volvo.  Just recently, Audi of America signaled that it would start offering HD radio receptivity across many of its 2011 models, and manufacturers Ford and BMW are also among the early movers.
