MySpace Educating Masses on Chinese Democracy

MySpace gained solid, first-day traffic on its exclusive, pre-release album stream of Chinese Democracy.  The Guns N' Roses album, an Axl Rose project for more than ten years, is finally hitting Best Buy this weekend.  Ahead of that in-store, several hundred thousand are already taking a peek, according to data visible on myspace.com/gunsnroses.  Specifically, the title track stream, "Chinese Democracy," clocked more than 700,000 streams by midnight, a full 24-hour rotation.

That song plays upon page load, offering some proxy of total page traffic.  But plays on other songs, which require a sustained presence, dropped significantly.  The second track, "Shackler's Revenge," approached 400,000, and the third, "Better," posted a similar finish.   The others largely fell below the 200,000-mark.  MySpace did not offer comment on the first-day traffic.

Clearly, some interest exists, but will they buy - either from a brick-and-mortar Best Buy or bestbuy.com?  If AC/DC offers any clues, Guns N' Roses will shift plenty of units, though slowing consumer traffic - particularly at Best Buy - could create issues.
