What happened last week on Wall Street? As far as music-related shares go, the action was fairly mild.
As usual, the portfolio was influenced by broader market movements. The Dow (DJIA) edged upward, improving less than a half-percent to 10,318.16 by the Friday bell. The Nasdaq (NASD) shed approximately one-percent to 2,146.04.
On the music side, Apple (AAPL) lost 2.2 percent on the week to $199.92, Warner Music Group (WMG) shed a few pennies to $6.80, and the Orchard (ORCD) gained 8 pennies, or 5.1 percent to $1.65. Live Nation (LYV) slipped 4.4 percent to $7.37, and Ticketmaster ceded 3.2 percent to $10.66.
A bigger mover was Hot Topic (HOTT), which dropped 10.1 percent to $5.90 on a disappointing earnings report.
And the week ahead? The action will be shortened by Thanksgiving, and that means a narrower time window for the delivery of various economic reports. The data will probably continue to show a weak-yet-recovering economy, though Black Friday receipts will offer a critical forecast into consumer spending levels.
