Gracenote is making moves to expand its footprint into Europe, the Middle East and Africa - a region affectionately referred to as 'EMEA' - according to details tipped by the company Tuesday morning. The recognition-specialized Gracenote, now wholly owned by Sony Corporation of America, is tapping former DivX executive, Andreas Lakeberg, to oversee the expanded operations.
Lakeberg is grabbing stripes as Vice President and General Manager of the EMEA region, and calling shots from offices in Berlin. "Andreas' extensive background in building digital media businesses in Europe makes him the ideal candidate to lead our EMEA team," relayed Craig Palmer, CEO of Gracenote.
The news follows a more flashy arrangement with Google, one that features Gracenote as a search-driven provider of lyrics. Missed that one? Unfortunately for Gracenote, the partnership was crowded by a huge number of other collaborators, including Lala, MySpace Music, now-acquired iLike, soon-to-be acquired Imeem, and Pandora (among others). But Gracenote is helping Google to smartly identify songs based on searches of lyrical snippets, a fun one for fans.
