Last week, Susan Boyle dismantled sales records in the UK, and the US is next. Boyle shifted more than 411,000 units in Britain in her debut week, an all-time high according to the Official Charts Company. Stateside, the number will be higher, but the record a bit less spectacular.
Early indicators suggest a first-week tally of well past 600,000 on I Dreamed a Dream, enough to beat out Eminem's Relapse
mark of 608,000 for a 2009 record. That puts the US+UK total well
past one million, and Boyle is also topping charts across other
global markets.
Great news for Boyle, who found herself penniless after breaking YouTube viewing records. But the dream of monetization is now a reality, thanks to huge mainstream appeal and a huge underdog story stoked by Britain's Got Talent.
