The latest Jay-Z video is anything but conventional, both in terms of motif and technological approach. On an artistic level, "Brooklyn Go Hard" skips the typical rap video interplay, and instead features a swarm of letters (b-r-o-o-k-l-y-n) that eventually etch a picture of Jay-Z and rap icon Notorious B.I.G. The song, produced by Kanye West, is being featured in the upcoming soundtrack for Notorious, a film about B.I.G., slated for January release. Additionally, the song and video are part of (RED)Wire, the recently-launched, music-focused charitable initiative spearheaded by Bono.
The video was produced by Evan Roth, who posted a source code link at the end of the piece. "I've been turning down client requests to use Typographic Illustration for 5 years in hopes that one day the phone would ring and it would be Hova," Roth explained on his blog, fffff.at. "I’m pretty sure that this is the first rap video to end with a download source code link."
