Pondering the Future on a Rainy San Francisco Day...

San Francisco is a damp and dreary place at the moment, and an imperfect backdrop for a one-day conference.  But perhaps the atmosphere is fitting for SanFran MusicTech, a smart conference that draws heavily from Silicon Valley, Sand Hill, SoMa, and other hot-spots.  Instead of blue-sky forecasting and sunny scenarios, the space is becoming more realistic of late, though the occasional doom-and-gloom is getting old.

And the topics on deck for MusicTech?  This is a one-day punch at an affordable price, an approach that maximizes networking and learning and minimizes time away from the factory.  Actually, an opening 'Meet the Press' session features Digital Music News, TechDirt, Mashable, KCRW, and the Los Angeles Times, a session that will hopefully offer some tips on courting finicky journalists and bloggers.

The rest of the day traverses a range of topics, including mobile and device developments, legal issues related to digital licensing, music-related gaming, music metadata, and a Google keynote.  Other companies floating around include LyricFind, IODA, Tapulous, Gracenote, Pandora, Blip.fm, and elevator pitches from lots of freshly-hatched startups.

More coverage ahead.
