Pandora started online, but the company has been spreading itself across other platforms for years.
The most famous of those expansions involves the iPhone (and iPod touch), though others include networked stereo systems by Sonos and Squeezebox (Logitech). Now, that list includes the Vudu networked set top box, according to information shared early this morning.
Like other networked media systems, the Vudu box links into an existing wireless connection and television. Then, the action begins, and Vudu offers access to roughly 14,000 movies and tv episodes, as well as internet services like YouTube, Flickr, and Picasa. “Our open development environment allows us to easily release new applications in partnership with some of today’s most popular services and content delivery platforms, increasing the value of the Vudu service platform for our users and partners,” explained Edward Lichty, executive vice president of Strategy and Content at Vudu.
