RealNetworks has just laid off 85, part of a broader restructuring designed to consolidate technology and media software units.

  • Video ringtone and mobile personalization specialist Vringtone has just rallied $11 million though its IPO on the NYSE.
  • Music Reports is handling all the mechanical licensing and reporting for Rdio.
  • More details are bubbling on an anticipated music stab by Google.  A cloud-like service will be core to the concept, but the Wall Street Journal is reaffirming a search-enhanced download release later this year, followed by a subscription play in 2011.
  • French industry trade group SNEP (Syndicat National de l’édition Phonographique) has just tapped Believe Digital founder Denis Ladegaillerie as its new President.
