IFPI: Debut Album Sales Have Plunged 77% Since 2003

Recording sales are in decline, that part is obvious.

But the following data from global trade group IFPI shows that debut releases from baby bands are trending far lower than releases from existing artists.  The IFPI argues that piracy is leading to lowered reinvestment, therefore starving critical funding for fresh talent.  “Digital piracy’s impact on music sales feeds through directly to reduced investments in artists,” the group stated.
