Irving Plaza Changing Name to “Irving Plaza Powered by Klipsch”

Just be happy it isn’t ‘Klipsch Plaza,’ okay?

Thanks to a recently-announced deal involving Live Nation and speaker manufacturer Klipsch, the iconic Irving Plaza is now being renamed ‘Irving Plaza Powered by Klipsch.’ The newly-formed mouthful will almost certainly be disregarded by locals, though most advertising collateral, radio announcements, and venue listings will start carrying the new, extended moniker.

But wait, there’s more: Miami’s Bayfront Park Amphitheater will also undergo a name-lift.  The new name will be “Klipsch Amphitheater at Bayfront Park.”  Both name-changes are immediate, and part of a multi-year strategic branding deal between the companies.

Klipsch will also sponsor and retrofit some smaller spots – for example, the Lounge at Gramercy Theater, though those namesakes will remain the same.  “For us, as well as Live Nation, it is and will always be all about the music,” said Paul Jacobs, CEO of Klipsch Group.  “Concerts attract individuals who share a passion that is very similar to Klipsch and the brand’s message.”

Live Nation executive chairman Klipsch Azoff declined to comment.
