The information comes from Congressional filings obtained by Digital Music News this morning.

According to the disclosure documents, the major labels – through the RIAA – have committed $4.43 million in lobbying costs during the first three quarters of this year, an increase of 9.53 percent over the same point in 2010.

The figure doesn’t count separate contributions from heavyweights like Universal Music Group, or RIAA expenses like office overhead and salaries.

These are federally-required disclosures, but they cannot capture things like under-the-table contributions.  Here’s the quarter-by-quarter breakdown.

Q1, 2011: $2.05 million

Q2, 2011: $1.25 million

Q3, 2011: $1.13 million

2011 YTD: $4.43 million
