Phil Hardy, the music journalist who started The Financial Times, has passed away. During his career he contributed to publications like Time Out and Variety and wrote books on the music and movie industries.

Godin Guitars has appointed Mario Biferali to Vice President of Sales & Marketing.  Biferali has been with Godin for 16 years in a variety of positions.

Beville Darden Dunkerley has been named Senior Editor of the soon to be launched Rolling Stone Country website. Dunkerley currently contributes to Rolling Stone and founded country music site The Boot.

Universal Music Publishing has promoted Darryl Watts to Creative Director. Watts was previously Creative Manager and Senior A&R Manager.

Meanwhile, Billboard is reporting that Universal Music Group has fired twelve people due to the recent label restructuring. Their various labels are supposedly letting go of some staff while hiring in other areas.
