We recently wrote about Twitter’s interest in purchasing SoundCloud. Nothing was set in stone, and apparently the deal has now crumbled.

Der Spiegel reports that Twitter was looking into the purchase, but decided against it and let the deadline pass.  An unnamed person who is familiar with the deal told the Wall Street Journal that  “the numbers didn’t add up” for Twitter.

Here’s our original story:

SoundCloud might become part of Twitter, according to new information reported by Recode.

“People familiar with both companies” say Twitter is thinking about buying the audio hosting platform.

At the end of 2013, SoundCloud said they had 250 million users. In January 2014, SoundCloud was valued at $700 million.

Both Twitter and SoundCloud declined comment.

SoundCloud has been cleaning up their platform and adding features to their stats view. They recently announced that they are deleting “old SoundCloud”, which has existed in tandem with their current platform.

WSJ quoted someone “numbers just do not add up” – I AGREE!

Soon there will be no numbers to add in music industry.
