…from a recent Wall Street Journal op-ed by Taylor Swift:

There are a few things I have witnessed becoming obsolete in the past few years, the first being autographs. I haven’t been asked for an autograph since the invention of the iPhone with a front-facing camera.
The only memento “kids these days” want is a selfie. It’s part of the new currency, which seems to be “how many followers you have on Instagram.”

Can’t sell a selfie on ebay
Is a counterfeit autograph tantamount to a photoshopped selfie?
Doesn’t mean it has less value.
I think the point is people would much rather have a picture to look at than an illegible scribble.
Sure, coming from Taylor Swift who is apparently the voice of the industry.
I mean…I’m no Taylor Swift fan but she certainly has the clout to talk about how fans interact with superstar musicians…
Way more than you. And me. And most likely anyone else on this website.
Don’t be so quick to judge me. You don’t know my experience in live performance.
I don’t care if you’ve performed in front of 100M people over your life, you’re not Taylor Swift. And if you made her type of money even one year, I’m fairly certain you’d have more fun things to do than have petty arguments on DMN.
Whatever. Yes digital is a fun part if the meet & greet but my artists still have a strong demand for autographs and fans purchase over a thousand a night in photos to get autographed. So do ur research before making things up.
