Conor Oberst: “I Forgive the Woman Who Accused Me of Rape…”

  • Save

After the accusations dragged for more than a year, Conor Oberst has now forgiven Joan Elizabeth Harris for wrongly accusing him of rape in the most public way possible.  The accusations first hit the web on XO Jane before quickly spreading, and quickly cast a pall over Oberst’s subsequent album release (and life, family, and relationships).

Just this morning, Oberst accepted the apology of Harris, who declared that her original statements were indeed false.

I have accepted Joanie Faircloth’s apology and retraction to clear my name. This has been extremely difficult and stressful for me personally and for those I love. I’m appreciative of the family, friends, fans, and business partners who supported me throughout this and look forward to happier times as we all move forward with our lives.

I’ve seen a lot of dumb comments on this blog, but this might be the dumbest.

I second that….extremely ignorant comment by John. Everyone deserves forgiveness, regardless. Acts of virtue are inspiring and its a lot harder to forgive than do the easy thing, and harbor anger/resentment. Its refreshing!

Well, John may have had some really bad shit done to him and is angry and not (yet) ready to move on. And he resents the suggestion that forgiveness of an attacker is a good, required thing. People are all different in how they handle things.
