News recently broke that Sony is pulling their artists’ music off SoundCloud due to “a lack of monetization opportunities”. Artists like Passion Pit, Leon Bridges, and Hozier had music pulled from the platform.
But what happens with artists who are firmly in the EDM world? SoundCloud is one of the main platforms that electronic music fans use to listen to and discover tracks.
Well, now Sony is pulling Madeon off of SoundCloud.
I guess Sony isn’t interested in the value of a platform unless they’re getting $51.5 million for themselves!

This is ridiculous. And such a bad publicity for Sony.
In about 2-3 weeks we’ll be ready to activate monetization on SoundCloud for our artists.
@Madeon you’re very welcome to sign up 🙂
It’s a smart move. There is no money to be made from SoundCloud.
We’ll see if that changes, but right now SoundCloud only pays in “exposure”…and as we know, you can die from exposure.
It’s an ignorant and archaic move made by a bloated, old and dying company. They do not care about the artists’ interests – just their own – as usual. You can’t fight the times. It’s getting old seeing the same battle fought when the war was lost many years ago.
Then why did Madeon sign over his rights to them?
Feel free to stream it on Spotify.
Welcome to the machine
Why? I say it time, and time again, big companies like Sony need to have a REAL social media/www department so they can understand if they’re shooting them selves in the head or actually doing things right.
