Data comes from a survey of college students conducted by textbook service Chegg. Take these results with a huge grain of salt, as only 184 students answered the first question and 477 students answered the second question.

That means 48% will use it , that’s huge !
Actually 9% say they will lol
9% is huge. And it will most likely be more. Even if just a quarter of the “I have to try it first” crowd buys, it’s almost to 20% now. That’s half of Spotify’s paid usership – just in college students. Add the 32% of switchers, and the extra switchers that will switch once they realize that Barry Manillow isn’t releasing his new album to Spotify – they’ll do fine. I don’t care to see Apple fed, but would love to see Spotify eaten. Arrogant fucks.
There are about 7 billion people on Earth. 9% of 7 billion is 630 million. That’s a pretty good start for a new service.
7 billion people yes, but do 7 billion even have internet/ phones/ computers? Around only 2 billion people have access to internet. Apple has 800 million users roughly. It still might mean around 70 mil people sign up which is pretty cool
Obviously I was kidding.
Obviously not obvious to everyone as Amyt didn’t seem to get it.
The good news is that 9% of a demographic that is used to pay 0 for music is willing to pay 10$ a month for it…
As stated above, if Apple can convert 9% of their user base to pay for streaming, it’s still a huge number of people, not far from their 100 million users goal. Add that to Spotify numbers and we can start to see a quite good regular amount of money.
The 38% who say they have to try it first is a huge proportion, though….if Apple creates a good product, then presumably many of these “triers” will sign on.
I don’t see why anybody would pay for Apple Music:
Contrary to what Nina wrote previously, Apple Music DOES NOT “let subscribers stream any song from the iTunes catalog”.
So buying iTunes downloads is still the only way to get the music you want (unless you’re a criminal).
