Straight Outta Compton Isn’t Being Shown In Compton Because There Isn’t a Theater There

“It’s a low-income area, it’s been heavily disinvested in,” University of Southern California professor of sociology Manuel Pastor told CBS Los Angeles, while addressing this issue of why Straight Outta Compton doesn’t have a hometown screen. “When you live in a community that doesn’t have that kind of retail, it’s a sign that the community is devalued, and people within the community feel devalued.”

    For people NOT fond of RDD (Racist Dogwhistle Daily), the current New Yorker Mag has an excellent article about Dre’s latest album and the history of Compton before during, and after NWA’s heyday.

    But don’t tell Resnikoff. He might learn, oh, that Compton is today mostly Hispanic.
