Ed Sheeran announces a massive 48-date tour to promote Divide, because 49 or 50 would just be too much.
So far, Ed Sheeran has enjoyed a solid 2017. The singer has topped Spotify streams at least three times this year. He enjoyed five weeks atop Spotify streaming charts. In January, two comeback singles, ‘Castle on the Hill,’ and ‘Shape of You,’ broke records. Both totals reached over 80 million streams. Both songs reached No. 1 and No. 2 on the Swedish streaming service. ‘Shape of You’ also saw a No. 1 debut at the Billboard Hot 100. ‘Castle on the Hill’ came in at a strong No. 6. This led Ed Sheeran to become the first artist to have two simultaneous top 10 debuts in Billboard history.
In addition, Ed Sheeran’s latest album, Divide, obliterated several streamer records including the highest number of first-day streams. Divide drew in 56.73 million streams around the world. This crushed the previous record held by The Weeknd’s Starboy at 29 million. Not content to stop there, Ed Sheeran fans pushed the album’s songs views on YouTube over the 1 billion mark. In a statement to Billboard, Lyor Cohen, YouTube’s Global Head of Music, said,
“Ed Sheeran is one of the biggest stars in the world and his new album is his best yet. For years, he’s paired his songs with consistently creative music videos, so it’s great to see fans rushing to YouTube to watch them and show support for his new album.”
In the wake of Divide’s success, Ed Sheeran announced a new North American tour. The huge 48-date North American tour will kick off in Kansas City on June 29 at the Sprint Center. The tour will end on October 6 at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena. Fans can purchase a limited number of tickets on Ticketmaster’s OnTourAccess page on March 13, 10am local time. However, they will have to register at 10am local time on March 10 to have access to the presale. The pre-sale will run through March 16 at 10pm local time.
