Drake Collaborator Smoke Dawg Murdered as Rap’s Body Count Continues

Now, Canadian rapper and Drake collaborator Smoke Dawg has been murdered.

The Canadian rapper, whose real name is Jahvante Smart, was shot dead in his hometown of Toronto on Saturday, June 30th.  Toronto Mayor John Tory confirmed that the shooting was a result of gang-related violence.

Fellow Toronto rapper and friend Drake took to Instagram to share a picture of himself with the deceased, lamenting the rapper’s untimely death and the loss of other lives in the industry lately.  The shooting comes on the heels of the June 18th shooting death of Florida rapper XXXTentacion, who was killed in Florida during an attempted armed robbery.

Several other industry professionals and friends of Smoke Dawg, including Mustafa the Poet and Nathan Miller, offered up tributes on social media following the shooting.

The rapper toured with Drake last year on the “Boy Meets World” tour along with other rappers part of the Halal Gang.  The rapper collective also includes Mo-G, Safe, and Puffy L’z.  Smoke Dawg’s most popular song was a remix of the song “Trap House,” which also features French Montana.

Initial reports state that the rapper was one of three people shot in broad daylight outside of Toronto’s Cube Nightclub.  Chaos quickly ensued in Toronto’s Entertainment District, where the incident occurred.  Aside from Smoke Dawg, a male and female were also gunned down.

Both the rapper and the other man were rushed to a trauma center, where they later succumbed to their injuries. The woman, who has not been identified, sustained non-life threatening injuries.

Toronto police stated that the suspects may have been driving either a white car or a black SUV, although details are sketchy at this point.
