SoundCloud has become a breeding ground for brand-new talent, and the service prides itself on providing indie artists with serious initial traction.

SoundCloud is launching a new mini-series that takes you behind the scenes with an artist.  Called “First on SoundCloud: Studio Sessions Berlin,” the web series focuses on indie creators who began their careers on the platform.

That will accentuate a growing competitive differentiation for SoundCloud.  The platform has been sparking careers within EDM and more recently hip hop, with high-wattage rappers like XXXTentacion and Post Malone gaining critical early traction on SoundCloud.

To produce the series, SoundCloud opened its Berlin studio to select artists it has chosen to highlight, giving fans a behind-the-scenes look at how these artists create their music.  The series is kicking off with electronic music artist San Holo, who used the Berlin studio to produce his new album, album1.

Check out the series in the tweet below.

San Holo launched his career on SoundCloud and now has more than half a million followers on the platform.

In the new series, you can see him playing guitar and singing during the live sets, bringing a human element to the mostly computer-generated genre of EDM.

San Holo says he uses human-produced sound and even birds chirping to add a sound that is organic and intentionally imperfect to his music. When asked about his origins as a musician on SoundCloud, the artist had this to say:

“Back in the day, there was really a SoundCloud scene going on in terms of young producers experimenting with sounds and uploading them to SoundCloud and finding each other. I knew something special was going on.”

San Holo’s first album is available for streaming now on the platform.
