SoundCloud and Dubset Announce Partnership for Next Generation Approaches in Streaming Music

SoundCloud CEO Kerry Trainor

SoundCloud keeps making new partnerships to stay ahead of the streaming music game.

SoundCloud’s been rather busy the past few months.

Last month, the company unveiled a monetization feature.

SoundCloud has invited artists and producers with over 5,000 plays in the previous month to better monetize their content on the independent streaming music platform.

This week, the company unveiled a new partnership with a slew of DJ performance applications.  Believing streaming workflows are the future, DJs will soon mix and stream the company’s nearly 200 million song catalog in real-time.  This feature is only available for users on its paid Go+ service.

At the same time, SoundCloud unveiled lossless streaming high-quality audio on Go+.  Unfortunately, while artists and producers can upload in lossless high-quality formats, the streaming service doesn’t support it.  Yet.

Now, the company has gone one step further to ensure content creators get paid for their original works.

SoundCloud and Dubset have announced a new partnership.  Both companies will test and develop next-generation approaches to clearing remixes on the streaming music service.

Dubset’s online mixed-audio distribution platform analyzes content from music creators to identify the use of original recordings within remixes, samples, and mixes.  Once identified, the company assigns full rights to original rightsholders.  Dubset also claims revenue for new content for artists and composers.  The company currently tailors its platform for thousands of label and publishing rightsholders – including majors and indies.  It claims new royalties for over 35 million pieces of original music.

Employing Dubset’s technology, both companies will aim to enable rights clearances, attribution, and monetization for creators and rightsholders.  SoundCloud will launch an invite-only beta program for individual remixes later this year.  Then, over time, both companies will extend the program to include full DJ sets.

Explaining the move differs from what other streaming music giants offer creators, Kerry Trainor, SoundCloud’s CEO, said,

Music culture is constantly evolving, and what’s next often can’t be found on mass streaming services.

Stephen White, CEO of Dubset Media Holdings, said content creators “live” on the indie streaming platform.  Dubbing SoundCloud “the most important platform on the planet for creators and the ultimate partner for Dubset,” he added,

Mixes and remixes not only establish incremental new revenue for artists and composers, they have proven over and over to be powerful music discovery growth tools, consistently driving growth in plays of the original track as well.  We are very excited to bring Dubset’s clearance capabilities to SoundCloud’s users.

You really don’t know what you’re talking about!
Dubset/mixbank is distributing remixes to Spotify, AppleMusic and Tidal for ages now… SoundCloud is not “ahead of the streaming music game” in any way. Actually they are the worst of all ?
