Jean-Michel Jarre believes VR is the next frontier for music fans.
Jean-Michel Jarre has confirmed a new partnership.
The French EDM producer will work together with TheWaveVR, a social virtual reality platform, for his latest album, Equinoxe Infinity.
Global fans on TheWaveVR’s platform will experience and remix tracks on the in-app virtual decks. Users can also host live concert playbacks for friends in virtual reality.
Starting today, users can access the album for free on HTC Vive and Oculus Rift VR headsets. They can access Equinoxe Infinity on Steam, Oculus Home, and TheWaveVR app.
The album will also feature commissioned 3D visuals from Sutu, a comic book illustrator and digital artist. Users can drop the visuals into fully customizable live shows.
Equinoxe Infinity marks the French EDM producer’s 20th studio album. It’s the sequel to Equinoxe, first released 40 years ago.
Jarre will also host a one-off Q&A in TheWave on December 12th. Sutu will host a live show an hour earlier to showcase the album’s visuals. This marks his first live virtual reality show in collaboration with a music artist.
Speaking about the partnership, Jarre explained,
“Virtual reality is part of the next frontier of music.
“The Equinoxe Infinity album considers where we are going as a society, including the ways artificial intelligence and machine learning may impact us. I’ve always been passionate about the potential of music to merge with future technologies.
“I loved that spatial art – one of the specialties of my live shows – isn’t limited to scale or real-life constraints. Creators can host the concert of their imagination. This is where Equinoxe Infinity belongs.”
Adam Arrigo, Co-founder and CEO of TheWaveVR, added,
“When we met with Jean-Michel we realized he had an instant understanding of the important role that immersive, visual experiences like ours have to play in the future of music. It’s a huge honor to bring his music to TheWaveVR community.”
