MelodyVR continues to sign major deals.
Two years ago, MelodyVR, a virtual reality firm, signed major licensing deals with Warner/Chappell, Sony Music Entertainment, Universal Music Group, and Roc Nation. The firm had also announced a hefty $19 million in funding.
Then, launching its official app, MelodyVR confirmed an additional $30 million in funding through EVR Fundings, bringing the startup’s total funding to $70 million. Shortly thereafter, the VR firm launched in eight more markets — France, Germany, Sweden, The Netherlands, Switzerland, Greece, Austria, and Belgium.
The firm has been offering streaming concerts and music programming to VR owners for several months now. The archives already include the likes of Post Malone, The Chainsmokers, and Bebe Rexha.
Now, the company has confirmed a major announcement.
Partnering with Kobalt’s AWAL.
MelodyVR has signed a virtual reality content creation and distribution deal with AWAL.
Financial terms of the deal remain undisclosed.
Under terms of the deal, the VR firm now has the rights to distribute both live and pre-recorded content featuring AWAL artists. The label’s roster includes deadmau5, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Lauv, Tom Misch, The Wombats, and The Kooks, among many others.
MelodyVR has previously worked with major artists to launch dedicated virtual reality experiences.
Last month, MelodyVR powered a real-time VR concert with Liam Payne. The live concert allowed viewers to choose where they wanted to view the show.
The company has also showcased London Symphony Orchestra performances.
MelodyVR makes some of its archived performances available for free, while others use the pay-per-view model.
In addition, this week, the company announced a new version of its app for an upcoming Oculus device. Its parent company, EVR Holdings, confirmed that it would receive a financial contribution to offset MelodyVR’s production and development costs. This remains a key part of the distribution deal between the VR firm and Oculus parent company Facebook.
Speaking about the deal with AWAL, Anthony Matchett, founder and CEO of MelodyVR, explained,
“I’m pleased to enter into this agreement with AWAL and look forward to working with their fresh and exciting roster of independent talent, to create groundbreaking immersive virtual reality experiences for their fans.”
