Spotify for Artists has quietly added a new ‘recommend label distributor’.
Last October, Spotify made a surprising move into the digital distribution business. Apple Music soon followed close behind.
The streaming music giant had quietly selected five ‘preferred distributors’ – CD Baby, Distrokid, EmuBands, FUGA, and Sony’s The Orchard.
Then, the company revealed it had acquired a passive minority stake in Distrokid. The move gave the latter’s subscribers preferential access to Spotify for Artist’s platform.
Earlier this year, the company narrowed its ‘Preferred Distributors’ list to just 3 – CD Baby, Distrokid, and The Orchard. Spotify had also unveiled its distributor list under two tiers – Preferred and Recommend.
Now, the streaming music giant has once again updated its distributor list.
Absolute joins the party.
On the Spotify for Artists page, Distrokid and CD Baby remain the company’s preferred artist distributors.
The post explains,
“These distributors meet our highest standards for providing quality metadata and protecting against infringement. These providers offer instant access to Spotify for Artists for all of their users.”
Sony’s The Orchard continues to stand alone as the company’s only preferred label distributor.
“These distributors meet our highest standards for providing quality metadata and protecting against infringement.”
Under ‘Recommended Label Distributors,’ which includes FUGA and Believe, Spotify has quietly added Absolute Label Services.
Founded in 1998, Absolute has worked with artists, managers, and labels. High-profile album releases from artists and labels include Steps, All Saints, Jake Shears, Kim Wilde, Alice Cooper, 67, Dappy, Ay Em, RAM Records, Danny Jones, and Ferris & Sylvester, among others in recent years.
Speaking about the recent addition, Dianne Bonney, Absolute’s Head of Digital Operations, explained,
“As streaming establishes itself as the dominant format of the modern day music business, it cannot be overstated how crucial quality metadata is to artists and labels, and how its importance will only increase over time.
“Absolute Label Services is proud to offer comprehensive label and distribution services to all of our clients and we’re pleased that our commitment to delivering only the highest quality assets and metadata is being recognized by Spotify.”
OK I’ll bite… why is Tunecore not on these lists?
They have a lot of fraudulent tracks
Tunecore is a rip off
Tunecore is a cdbaby copycat that makes u pay every year. Cdbaby one time payment no annual fee. So most artist 4get to pay annual fee so your release becomes temporary.
