Taylor Swift’s seventh studio album Lover has become the fastest-selling album of 2019 so far.
The 18-song collection was released on Friday, August 23rd. In the two days since it has been on sale, the album has already broken several sales records.
That begs the question: just how big will the total sales this week be? Conservative estimates say Lover may crack 700,000 albums and streams.
Lover may also become Swift’s fifth consecutive album to hit more than one million sales. That’s with sales and streaming numbers (or ‘Streaming Equivalent Albums’) combined. Swift is offering several bundle options with jewelry and merch to promote the album.
Lover occupied 14 of the top 15 spots on Spotify’s U.S. chart on Friday. The following day on Saturday, ten songs dominated the top 15 charts.
All eighteen tracks surpassed one-million streams within the first day of release. At least four of those tracks surpassed two million, with “The Man” topping that list.
Lover’s first-day sales are reported to be around 450,000. That’s already more than the Jonas Brothers’ Happiness Begins, which moved 357,000 in its first week. A good indication that sales are going to skyrocket comes from Target.
On Friday, Target tweeted that Lover is the company’s best-selling pre-order album of all time. Swift previously set that record with her 2017 album, reputation.
Target’s tweet didn’t share any numbers, but reputation sold 2 million in its first week. Pre-orders were reported to be over 400,000 in the United States across all retailers. It’s not hard to guess that Lover may quickly surpass those numbers.
Amazon also confirmed by a tweet that Lover “broke global records as a top album debut on Amazon Music.”
It is also expected that Lover will debut at the top of the Billboard 200. That will be Swift’s six consecutive albums to debut at the top of the charts. That accomplishment would tie Swift with Beyonce for the most consecutive albums by a female artist to debut at number one.
