Ed Sheeran Is Going Off-Grid for an Indefinite Period

Singer Ed Sheeran announced on Instagram that he is taking another hiatus from both music and social media.

In a Christmas Eve post, he wrote:

Hello all. Gonna go on another break again.

The Divide era and tour changed my life in so many ways, but now it’s all over it’s time to go out and see some more of the world.”

I’ve been a bit non stop since 2017 so I’m just gonna take a breather to travel, write, and read. I’ll be off social media until it’s time to come back.

I promise to be back with some new music when the time is right and I’ve lived a little more to actually have something to write about.

This is not the first time that Sheeran has taken time off from his hectic career.

At the end of 2015, after completing his xTour, he also took time off. He indicated then that this was so he could devote time to Cherry Seaborn, who was at the time his girlfriend and now his wife.

Sheeran actually has a good excuse for taking a break now. His Divide tour, which ended in August, kept him on the road for more than two months and included a whopping 260 performances. It also made him very rich, as it was reportedly the highest grossing music tour in history.

Sheeran’s announcement comes only a few days after the release of a music video in support of “Put It All on Me,” which is his latest single.

At the moment, it is not clear exactly when Sheeran will return to both music and social media. But many believed that his previous hiatus was beneficial to him. Music legend Elton John, who in 2011 signed Sheeran to his management company, told Rolling Stone that the hiatus had “refreshed his soul.”
