Music is available on Instagram, but putting songs and lyrics into Stories can be tricky. Here’s how to add song lyrics to any Instagram Story.

This guide was written based upon the latest version of Instagram (as of September 2020). If you’re still having trouble adding song lyrics to your Instagram Story after reading – and especially if you can’t find the described icons and tools – try updating your phone and Instagram itself. Now, here’s how to add song lyrics to any Instagram Story.

Step 1: Select the Sticker Icon

After you’ve captured the perfect photo or video for your Instagram Story, the first step towards adding lyrics is selecting the sticker icon along the top of your screen. It’s right in the middle of a line of five other symbols. This square-shaped mark features a smiley face.

Step 2: Tap the “Music” Option

Now you’ll see a list of tools that allow you to add your location and/or its temperature, GIFS, polls, and much more to your story.

To add song lyrics, however, tap “music” in the center of your screen.

Step 3: Pick a Popular Song — or Search for a Different Title

Once you’ve tapped “music,” you’ll see an up-to-date list of the most popular songs being included in Instagram Stories. Select one of these tracks. Or, if you’d like to display the lyrics of a different song, use the search function at the top of your screen.

Step 4: Use the Red-and-Orange Slider Bar to Pick Your Preferred Lyrics

At this point, you’ll find that the song you decided upon is playing, and its lyrics are displaying on the screen. To pick the exact lyrics (and part of the song) for your Instagram Story, though, you can use the red-and-orange slider bar on the bottom of your screen.

The “number circle” in the bottom-left corner allows you to choose how long the lyrics will appear in your Instagram Story (between five and 15 seconds).

Lastly, the line of icons above the red-and-orange slider bar lets you change the lyrics’ font or omit the lyrics entirely, simply playing the selected song. The “color wheel” on the screen’s top allows you to change the lyrics’ color.
