Echoing cancellations in New York, the Primavera Sound festival has canceled initial dates due to severe weather concerns.
“Thursday’s Primavera Sound Madrid has been cancelled for safety reasons in view of the adverse weather forecast,” organizers informed attendees via social media. “Due to the persistent severe weather experienced in recent weeks that have affected the pre-production of the festival and in view of the adverse forecast that is expected for June 9, with heavy storms during the afternoon, in close coordination and in agreement with the City Council and the local police force of Arganda del Rey and following the recommendations of the relevant technical reports, the Primavera Sound Madrid event in the Ciudad del Rock of Arganda del Rey is cancelled for safety reasons.”
“Primavera Sound Madrid continues and will open its doors in the Ciudad del Rock in Arganda del Rey on June 9 and June 10. The opening day this evening in the Civitas Metropolitano is also continuing, although due to the rainn, the opening of doors has been delayed. La Paloma has not been able to perform, though the rest of the concerts are still on schedule.”
Acts scheduled to appear on Thursday included Blur, Halsey, New Order, Darkside, Le Tigre, NxWorries, Turnstile, Central Cee, Drain Gang, Loyle Carner, Pusha T, Rema, Sparks, Alex G, Alison Goldfrapp, Amenra, Black Country New Road, Boris, Built to Spill, Hudson Mohawke, Machine Girl, OFF!, Perfume, PinkPantheress, Self Esteem, Sudan Archives, The Comet is Coming, Yard Act, Blondshell, Isabella Lovestory, and more.
Primavera Sound opened the Blur Concert and the Boiler Room x CUPRA program to people with a Thursday ticket until capacity was reached. They also made accommodations to allow Thursday ticket holders access to the festival on Friday and Saturday without having to change anything. If neither of the additional two days is attended, Thursday ticket holders will receive a refund at their point of sale.
