Concord Music Publishing has announced it has acquired a portion of the music publishing catalog of Tom Higgenson.

Higgenson is the songwriter and frontman behind the Plain White T’s and the deal includes the global pop hit, “Hey There Delilah,” and other notable tracks including “A Lonely September,” “Take Me Away,” and “Radios in Heaven.”

“‘Hey There Delilah’ is literally sung, hummed, or lip-synced in every corner of the world,” says Concord Chief Business Development Officer, Steve Salm. “We are excited to have made this acquisition which now gives Concord ownership in both the recording and underlying composition of this evergreen song.”

Higgenson says he wrote the song about the most beautiful girl he’d ever seen—Delilah DiCrescenzo, a cross-country runner. The two never became a couple, but Higgenson presented her with a CD of the finished song in 2004. The song went on to earn two Grammy nominations and spent 35 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart, peaking at #1 for two weeks in a row. The song was the #1 song in eight countries in 2007-2008.

Tom and Plain White T’s came to Concord’s Fearless Records when their self-produced album Stop attracted the attention of the label. The band returned to Fearless for their 2018 album Parallel Universe and have released two singles this year, including “Spaghetti Tattoo” and “Happy.”

“I’ve very grateful for the relationship I have built with the Concord and Fearless teams, and I’m excited to move forward into the future with them,” adds Tom Higgenson about the deal. Higgenson was represented by his longtime attorney Scott Bradford of Selverne Bradford, PLLC, with regards to this deal.

“Working directly with Tom on this deal has been a great experience and moreover, Concord and Fearless are pleased that Plain White T’s has once again chosen Farless to release their upcoming album,” adds Fearless Records President Andy Serraro.
