Travis Scott’s nationwide Utopia tour reveals one notable omission: his hometown of Houston, Texas.
Travis Scott announced dates and cities for his highly-anticipated Utopia tour, with shows in nearly every major city in the United States — except for his hometown of Houston, where his now-infamous 2021 Astroworld concert resulted in a crowd crush event that left ten dead and dozens more injured.
Interestingly, Travis will stop in Austin and Dallas, with 26 shows planned across the US and two in Canada. Reports surfaced that the superstar would be heading to Houston on his tour, which was met with dismay from the Houston police. But the Houston police department recently released a 1,200-page investigative report on Astroworld, and Travis Scott will not be criminally charged in relation to the incident, although civil lawsuits are still ongoing.
In the police report, Scott claims to have been unaware that people were dying in the crowd. However, audio engineers told police they recalled several warnings issued to Scott about problems organizers faced in dealing with the crowd crush. Even after the event was declared a mass casualty event by the Houston Police Department, the concert continued for another 37 minutes.
Despite his lack of a Houston appearance for his upcoming tour, $2 from every Travis Scott ticket sold will go to his Cactus Jack Foundation, which serves to “uplift Houston youth through toy drives, scholarship programs to HBCU college students, and fulfilling expenses for education and creative endeavors.”
Meanwhile, Travis’ set in Rome’s Circus Maximus earlier this month featured a surprise special appearance from Kanye West, marking the disgraced artist’s first public appearance since his anti-semitic rant on social media. The tour is Scott’s first North American tour since the Astroworld tragedy.
