Primary Wave inks a broad-reaching deal with the Scott Weiland Estate, including a share of name, image, and likeness rights.

The Estate of Scott Weiland has entered a partnership with leading indie publishing giant Primary Wave, including publishing rights and recording royalties for Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver. The deal also includes all of Weiland’s songs and recordings released as a solo artist, such as his debut album, 12 Bar Blues, and a Christmas release.

Further, Primary Wave will share in name, image, and likeness rights with the estate, along with providing access to the company’s publishing infrastructure and marketing team, working closely on new branding and sync opportunities, film, and television projects.

Many of Weiland’s most well-known songs, such as “Interstate Love Song,” “Plush,” and “Vasoline,” which he wrote and recorded with Stone Temple Pilots, are included in the partnership. Weiland’s catalog includes 16 Top 10 singles, eight of which became No. 1 hits.

In addition to his rock and alt-rock catalog both as a solo artist and with Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver, was Weiland’s 2011 Christmas release, The Most Wonderful Time of the Year. The album features Weiland’s take on 10 Christmas classics, including “White Christmas,” “Silent Night,” and “Winter Wonderland.”

The album was reissued late last year on vinyl with four previously unreleased tracks, including his cover of John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s “Happy Xmas (War is Over).” This was the first new music from Weiland’s vault to be released by his estate since his passing in 2015.

“There are few rock artists that had the impact that Scott Weiland did on music,” said Larry Mestel, CEO and founder of Primary Wave Music. “We are honored to partner with Scott’s family on such a legendary catalog of music and career. Scott’s influence on music is unparalleled, and he remains one of the most influential musicians in rock music. We are extremely grateful the estate has chosen to partner with us to continue to grow his incredible legacy.”

“We believe that Primary Wave are the perfect partners to secure Scott’s legacy as one of the great front men in rock history. We look forward to working with (Primary Wave) and believe that their ability to connect artists with culture will ensure that Scott’s impact will be felt for generations,” added Brian Harris Frank of Shelter Music Group and Dana Dufine of DBD Squared Entertainment, who manage the estate.

“Scott is the original influencer. The stories behind his undeniably authentic lyrics, effervescent performances, impeccable fashion sense, and meteoric rise to stardom are a filmmaker’s dream,” concluded Natalia Nastaskin, Chief Content Officer at Primary Wave. “I’m thrilled to work with Scott’s family, as well as Dana and Brian, on expanding and extending Scott’s legacy through new compelling IP projects across film, television, and stage.”
