How many people listen to Joe Rogan? Data shows that his reach far eclipses that of other podcasters on Spotify.

Bloomberg reported that Spotify quietly began testing a new feature showing podcast follower counts on shows’ landing pages on the Spotify mobile app. The functionality of the feature feels TikTok-esque, with swipeable episode previews. But the more interesting find was the sheer number of subscribers to Joe Rogan’s podcast — and it’s nearly three times the amount of the second-most followed show, TED Talks Daily.

The Joe Rogan Experience boasts 14.5 million followers on Spotify as of this week, making it by far the most popular podcast on the platform. Of course, since Spotify ended their exclusivity deal with Rogan in a multi-year agreement signed last month, the podcast is also now available on other platforms, including Apple Podcasts. The number only accounts for his Spotify audience — but his reach across platforms is staggering.

According to Bloomberg, his Spotify following is still smaller than his YouTube subscriber count, which comes in at 16.4 million. Meanwhile, he has 18.9 million followers on his personal Instagram.

But his Spotify numbers are made even more impressive when you take into account that he only accumulated them four years ago. His show wasn’t on Spotify until he signed an exclusive deal with them in 2020.

Last month, Spotify renewed its deal with Rogan for a reported $250 million over the course of several years, relinquishing exclusivity rights after paying $100 million out of the gate for them four years prior.

While follower counts don’t necessarily translate into active listeners, following a podcast is a conscious choice fans make to show support for a creator. And no matter how you slice it, 14.5 million is an impressive number. To put that number into further context, Edison Research reports that 42 million people in the US listened to podcasts in 2023 — so it’s safe to assume that Joe Rogan enjoyed a sizable chunk of that pie.
