Country star Alan Jackson announces his final tour dates in the face of his worsening neurological condition, Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease.

Alan Jackson has announced the final dates of his farewell tour, “Last Call: One More for the Road,” vowing to give his fans “the best show I can” since going public about his neurological condition, Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease, ten years after his diagnosis.

“There’s no cure for it, but it’s been affecting me for years. And it’s getting more and more obvious,” said Jackson in an interview with Today. Mayo Clinic describes the disease as a genetic neurological condition that causes damage to the peripheral nerves connecting the spine and brain to the arms and legs. “It’s genetic; I inherited from my daddy.”

Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease (CMT) is one of the most common inherited neurological conditions, affecting approximately one in every 2,500 people in the US, according to the Hereditary Neuropathy Foundation. Nerve damage from CMT can cause muscle shrinkage and weakness, particularly in the ankles and feet, with some patients developing hand weakness too, although this is less common.

“Most patients do not have a major pain component,” explains Dr. John Kincaid, a neurologist at Indiana University School of Medicine who specializes in the disease. Some nerve damage can cause pain or a loss of sensation, but these issues are “very secondary” to muscle weakness in CMT, with most people not experiencing them.

The 65-year-old Jackson will continue his “Last Call” tour, which kicked off in 2022, featuring performances in 10 US cities from August 2024 through May 2025.

“Fans know when they come to my shows, they’re going to hear the songs that made me who I am — the ones they love,” said Jackson. “I’ve been touring for over 30 years — my daughters are all grown, we have one grandchild and one on the way, and I’m enjoying spending more time at home. But my fans always show up to have a good time, and I’m going to give them the best show I can for this Last Call.”

Tickets for all shows go on sale Friday, June 7, with $1 from every ticket sale going toward the CMT Research Foundation, with each donation being matched by a group of CMTRF donors.
