Diplo takes to Instagram to respond to the allegations that he has been distributing “revenge porn” of a Jane Doe, who is currently suing him in California federal court.

DJ and producer Diplo, who is being sued for the alleged distribution of revenge porn, took to Instagram to respond to the news — alongside photos and video clips of him having a blast in Europe. A New York woman identified as Jane Doe filed the lawsuit against him in California federal court on June 27.

“Don’t believe what you read in the news. I don’t own a 100 million dollar mansion, I didn’t pay 450k euros to rave in Ibiza, and I didn’t send dirty Snapchats in 2017,” wrote the 45-year-old Diplo, whose real name is Thomas Wesley Pentz. The post accompanied a shirtless photo of the DJ and several clips of him enjoying the summer and playing at his recent shows in Athens, Croatia, and Prague. “Let’s talk about how lucky I am to party with you guys and how good the raves are here in Europe.”

Jane Doe’s complaint alleges that she began communicating with Diplo on Snapchat in April 2016, when she was 21 and the artist was 37. During that time, “Diplo maintained continuous contact with [Doe], exchanging pornographic images with her.”

That June, the two met in person for the first time, according to the complaint, beginning an “intimate relationship” that continued until October 2023. Throughout the relationship, Jane Doe says they had sex and exchanged “intimate and/or nude photographs and videos.” She claims she “made it known that she did not want [Diplo] recording them engaging in sexual activities without her explicit consent,” and did not want him to “distribute images and/or videos to third parties,” and never provided consent to do so.

In November 2023, Jane Doe says a woman reached out to her to tell her she was “in possession of images and videos” of her and Diplo having sex. She says she allegedly received “the intimate material” from Diplo via Snapchat in October 2018. Doe’s complaint clarifies that she did not know the woman prior to their contact in November.

The filing says Doe reported Diplo to the New York Police Department, and that police issued a warrant for his arrest. The NYPD office of the deputy commissioner of public information has confirmed to Pitchfork that there is a “criminal complaint on file for unlawful dissemination for a suspect with the name of Thomas Pentz, which is currently being investigated by NYPD detectives.”

According to the complaint, Jane Doe believes Diplo has continued distributing the intimate images and videos from 2018 into the present. “Plaintiff has and will continue to suffer personal injury from the disclosure and/or distribution of the intimate images and/or videos,” the lawsuit states. “The permanent harm she proximately suffers includes, but is not limited to, extreme and severe emotional distress with physical manifestations, anxiety, depression, and loss of privacy.”

Bryan J. Freedman, Diplo’s attorney, said in a statement to Vanity Fair, “Time and again, Wes has been targeted by a group of untrustworthy individuals and their unscrupulous lawyers, cobbling together falsehoods in search of a meritless payday.”

“This suit seems to be just more of the same, which is why we have no reason to believe that this will end any differently than all the others,” he concluded.

Diplo has been involved in a separate legal battle with a woman named Shelly Auguste since 2020, which has twice involved her accusing him of distributing revenge porn. He has not been criminally charged over the allegations. A related civil trial is scheduled for January 2025.
