Elon Musk’s X is expanding the release of its dedicated vertical feed to users worldwide shortly after its debut in the US.

X, Elon Musk’s social media platform formerly known as Twitter, has started expanding the release of its dedicated vertical video feed to users around the world. The news comes just days after the feature’s debut in the US.

According to TechCrunch, the feature started appearing in various regions outside the US over the weekend, including Australia, India, and some European markets. An X spokesperson confirmed to the outlet that the global rollout of the feature was currently “underway.” Users can find the dedicated feed via a new tab in the X app, located next to the Grok AI button.

So far, the rollout is specific to iOS, with an exact timeframe for the Android launch to be determined. The feature debuted in the US last week amid TikTok’s uncertain future in the market. Other platforms, such as Instagram, are also taking advantage of TikTok going dark, reportedly reaching out to prominent creators to secure deals with them to post on Reels.

Though the TikTok app is still unavailable on the Google and Apple app stores, Trump signed an executive order to extend the deadline for the company to make a deal to cede (some) control of the platform to a US entity.

TikTok aside, video has increasingly become a key focus for the former Twitter. Last year, X launched a stand-alone TV app to show videos from creators and organizations. In 2022, functionality was added to enable users to scroll through short videos by tapping on a video in the timeline and swiping up.

X’s new video feature also enables the platform to display ads after users scroll through a few videos. That will certainly aid the company in generating additional revenue by keeping users engaged with the short-form content, a strategy already employed by social networks like Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok.

Regardless of whether TikTok returns to the US in full swing, more features made popular by the platform are expected to make their way into competitor apps. Short-form video continues to dominate in the social media space.
