Rapper Rod Wave was arrested on drug and weapon charges the day he received his first-ever Grammy nomination.

It’s been a tough year for Rod Wave. On Friday, November 7, Atlanta police took the 27-year-old into custody on four charges, including possession of a weapon while committing a crime, possession of a controlled substance, and reckless driving. The same day, he was nominated for a Grammy for the song “Sinners,” the title track from the horror film of the same name.

A spokesperson for the Milton Police Department said authorities responded to a “possible domestic disturbance” at a local residence. Upon arrival, they determined the incident involved a “previously unreported burglary and the subsequent discharge of a firearm.” The investigation remains ongoing, and Rod, whose legal name is Rodarius Marcell Green, reportedly turned himself in. He was released on Saturday, November 8.

The rapper’s attorneys said their client was “unjustly profiled and unlawfully arrested” by an officer belonging to “the Atlanta Police Department’s controversial Crime Suppression Unit.” They added the group is “known for its aggressive tactics and emphasis on high arrest numbers rather than genuine public safety.”

Meanwhile, Rod Wave has recently been caught in a legal battle over his cancelled tour and $27 million in allegedly unpaid advances, which the musician asserts he does not owe. He also started planning a new tour beginning next month with a different company.

Notably, his recent arrest comes six months after Rod’s prior arrest (in an unrelated incident) on 14 counts, including aggravated assault, possession of a firearm, and felony tampering with evidence. The artist was detained in Fulton County, Georgia, and released on a $50,000 bond.

That arrest was related to an incident in April when Rod “returned to his home following a burglary,” where an argument ensued, and a pistol was “fired 14 times, striking several cars and a wall in the home.” He was also arrested in 2022 and 2024 in two other unrelated incidents.

Rod Wave first rose to prominence in 2019 with his single “Heart On Ice,” which went viral on TikTok and then peaked at #25 on the Billboard Hot 100. His debut studio album, Ghetto Gospel, reached #10 on the U.S. Billboard 200 album chart, and he’s released another five albums since.
